What is a Generic Inquiry, and what does this tool do?

Generic Inquiries are how Acumatica pulls data without code. They power most reports, dashboards, pivots and Power BI feeds.

Building them takes hours and usually a consultant. The GI Generator builds them from a plain-English prompt, in minutes.

No code
Reports, dashboards, BI
In minutes
background

You know exactly which report you need. Getting it built is the problem.

Waiting on your VAR
Days or weeks in the queue, at $150 to $300 an hour.
VAR rates per Protelo's published Acumatica pricing guide, 2026.
The iteration tax
Every tweak is another request, another quote, another wait.
Knowledge locked in one person
When the person who knows your schema is busy or gone, the knowledge goes too.

What a Generic Inquiry actually costs you today

Most reports your team asks for (sales by item, inventory aging, AR by salesperson) need joins, conditions and grouping. That's where the hours add up.
Complexity What's in it Manual build
(experienced consultant)
With GI Generator
Simple One table, a handful of fields 2 to 3 hours under 2 minutes
Moderate 2 to 4 joins, conditions, grouping, sort 10 to 15 hours from 2 to 5 minutes
Complex Projections, attributes, calculated fields, parameters, navigation 20 to 40+ hours from 5 to 10 minutes
And yes, the generator handles all three tiers today, complex GIs included.
Source: AcuPower's measured experience building Generic Inquiries for Acumatica customers since 2021. Total work hours including communication (spec, quote, approval, build, testing). Elapsed calendar time is typically longer again due to queue waits at the VAR.

How the Acumatica Generic Inquiry Generator works

01

Step 1. Describe

Click the AI Draft Assistant in your Generic Inquiry screen. Describe what you want in plain English.

Example: “Sales by item for the last 12 months. Show inventory ID, description, item class, quantity sold, sales amount, average unit price, customer count, invoice count and last sale date. Sort by sales amount descending.”
02

Step 2. Generate

The AI reads your schema (including custom DACs, projections and attributes), writes GIQL, and validates it.

03

Step 3. Use

Within minutes, a working Generic Inquiry. View, export to Excel, drop on a dashboard, or feed Power BI through OData.

The maths is hard to argue with

Even twenty Generic Inquiries a year adds up fast.

$2,000 to $3,000 One moderate GI. 10 to 15 hours of consultant time at $200 per hour blended.
$40,000 to $60,000 Twenty moderate GIs a year in consultant fees alone.
200+ hours Of consultant time replaced per year. Five working weeks for higher-value work.
Days to minutes The full request-to-delivery loop, replaced by a prompt.
Cost figures derived from AcuPower's measured GI build times and published Acumatica VAR rates of $150 to $300 per hour (Protelo Acumatica pricing guide, 2026), using a $200 per hour blended rate.

Now watch it build a 24-month cash report

Works across modules
Sales, finance, inventory, AR, AP, projects. Any module your prompt points at.
Picks up your customisations
Custom attributes are detected automatically. Nothing to map.
Cheap to iterate
Tweak the prompt, regenerate. The iteration loop that used to cost a week.

Built for the people who actually need the data

If you can describe the report you want, you can build it. No developer required.
Controllers and finance leads
Sales, margin, AR and GL views without waiting for month-end help.
Operations and warehouse managers
Inventory aging, slow movers, fulfilment performance, on demand.
Sales operations
Pipeline, win rates and customer-by-product views without a ticket.
In-house Acumatica admins
Cover ten requests in the time one used to take.

Early-adopter pricing

$1,000 to $2,500 per year, set by your Acumatica edition: Essentials, Select, Prime or Enterprise.

Your specific number and the full breakdown come on the demo call.

We're rolling the GI Generator out to a limited group of early adopters. The price is favourable now and will adjust after the pilot.

An Anthropic or OpenAI API key is required separately. Usage is billed by the AI provider, not by us. See the FAQ below.

What people ask before they book a demo

Yes. If you can describe the report to a colleague, you can describe it to the generator. No SQL or schema knowledge needed.

Yes, it's in production today. We're starting with a small group of early adopters: direct access to Yuriy, your feedback shapes the roadmap, and pricing is locked in for the pilot.

An API key from Anthropic or OpenAI. You keep that relationship and pay usage directly to them, separate from your AcuPower licence. Setup is a few minutes; we'll walk through it on the demo.

As of June 2026, the AcuPower GI Generator is the only one. Acumatica's native AI tools answer questions over existing Generic Inquiries but don't create new ones. Per Acumatica's own FAQ for AI Studio: “Generic Inquiries, dashboards, reports, processing screens are not currently supported”.

You see the result before saving. Adjust the prompt and regenerate (a few minutes, not another two weeks). The tool also checks its own work, so most prompts come back clean first time.

Usually the opposite. This replaces their least-favourite work, the backlog of “can you add a column” tickets, and frees them for integrations and the bigger build. The GIs you create still follow your normal change control.

The same people who can see it now. Your Acumatica role and permission rules continue to apply. A user who can't see payroll today can't generate a GI that shows it.

Acumatica 2025 R1 or newer, on the modern interface. On an older version? Talk to your Acumatica partner about upgrading. We're happy to support them with dev resources if they want help.

No. Everything you have today keeps working. The generator just gives you a faster way to create new GIs and rebuild old ones.

Yes, and that's the most useful kind of demo. Mention one or two reports you've been waiting on when you book, and Yuriy will build them live on the call.
