Acumatica 2026 R2 changes how retail teams handle Shopify returns and exchanges, payouts and shipping. Here’s what each one changes for your ecommerce, finance and sales teams.
In this article:
After the order is placed
A sale doesn’t end at checkout. A customer swaps a size. Another sends a parcel back. A payment processor pays you out in one batch, and someone has to work out which orders it covers. When your shop, your warehouse and your ledger each hold a different version of that story, someone ends up keying the difference.
Acumatica 2026 R2 brings more of that into one record. It posts Shopify returns and exchanges as connected ERP transactions, helps your finance team match payments, and tightens how you promise and ship orders. This article follows an order after it is placed and says what each change means for the people who handle it.
Everything here is described on Acumatica’s own pages.
Retail is one part of a wider release. For the rest, including the AI Assistant, MCP and the Modern UI, read our overview of everything new in Acumatica 2026 R2.
Shopify returns and exchanges
Acumatica 2026 R2 processes Shopify returns and exchanges as connected ERP transactions, with the right effect on inventory and on your books. Full and partial exchanges are both supported. Acumatica describes Shopify exchanges as arriving “fully reconciled”.
The Shopify connector already did part of this job. It reflects returns and refunds made in Shopify in your financial system, and it lets you import an exchange from a Shopify order. It also sends a separate shipment and tracking number to the online store for each box in a shipment, and it supports Shopify product variants.
For your ecommerce team, the gain is one record of what the customer sent back and what they received instead. For your finance team, it’s a refund that matches the order.
Payouts and reconciliation
A payment processor pays out in batches. Each batch covers many orders, less fees, with refunds and chargebacks netted off. Your finance team has to match all of that to the ledger.
Two changes in 2026 R2 help. Intelligent bank matching learns from the matches you confirm, so the next time the same payee appears, the matching document gets a stronger match automatically. The AI Assistant also handles harder finance questions, including prior periods and specific dates. Your team can see how a balance changed, trace the transactions behind it and turn an answer into a reusable dashboard widget.
For your finance team, the gain is reconciliation that gets easier as the system learns from the matches you confirm.
Selling on BigCommerce
If you sell on BigCommerce, 2026 R2 lets you manage B2B company accounts, hierarchies and pricing context from Acumatica inside BigCommerce. B2B accounts now sync in both directions. Parent company and price class preprocessing is there to make sure synced accounts land with the right relationships.
For your B2B sales team, the gain is a buyer’s account, hierarchy and pricing that match in both systems.
Promising and shipping
Three changes help you keep the delivery promise you make at the start of an order.
Available-to-Promise. Real-time Available-to-Promise shows projected supply and demand on the order line, so you commit to dates you can meet.
Rate shopping and address review. Least-cost rate shopping and address review before labels print mean more control and less rework. Shipping is also updated to cause fewer errors across EasyPost and ShipEngine.
Related-item suggestions. Opportunities and sales quotes can offer related items alongside real-time availability.
For your ecommerce and warehouse teams, the gain is fewer shipping surprises. We cover these in more detail in our Distribution article, because they apply to distributors too.
Portals and payments
For customers, Acumatica describes “modern vendor, customer, and partner collaboration surfaces with embedded payments”. You can also monitor credit card and ACH payment statuses across Acumatica.
For your finance team, the gain is one place to see where a card or ACH payment stands.
What it means for your ecommerce, B2B sales and finance teams
Ecommerce team. Shopify returns and exchanges post as connected transactions, and you promise and ship orders with real-time availability, rate shopping and address review.
B2B sales team. BigCommerce company accounts, hierarchies and pricing stay in step between Acumatica and BigCommerce, in both directions.
Finance team. Refunds and exchanges match the order, bank matching improves with every confirmed match, and the AI Assistant can answer harder questions about balances and prior periods.
What to weigh up
Test returns and exchanges with real orders. Run a full exchange, a partial exchange and a refund through both systems before you go live.
Check your Shopify connector. Confirm your connector version and your Shopify plan support what you want to use.
Decide who clears payout exceptions. Better matching still leaves chargebacks, fees and currency differences for someone to review. Agree who owns that step.
Check what applies where you sell. Some payment methods, forms and tax rules follow regional standards. Confirm what fits your channels.
Key takeaways
Shopify returns and exchanges become connected transactions. Full and partial exchanges are supported, and Acumatica describes them as arriving fully reconciled.
Reconciliation gets lighter. Bank matching learns from your confirmed matches, and the AI Assistant answers harder finance questions.
You promise and ship with more control. Available-to-Promise, rate shopping and address review cover the steps before dispatch.
B2B and payments reach more places. BigCommerce B2B accounts sync both ways, and portals carry embedded payments.
